Will social media sites help you?

Whether it is Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, or the next advancement in social media websites, the question is:  will it bring you more customers/clientele?

By itself, it will not increase traffic to your website.  It requires networking, just like physical networking with associates of similar and different industries.  At Rodli Web Strategies, we believe that Facebook will have a long lasting appeal because of the interaction between long lost friends, current friends, and family.

Search Engine Optimization and YouTube

Rodli Web Strategies recently assisted Carl Mann Outfitting with various search engine optimization techniques to improve traffic.  One particular area which significantly improved traffic and clientele was the use of YouTube.com.  We took a couple of segments of Carl’s DVDs and added them to YouTube, including a 4 minute hunting segment. 

In one year, this particular video had over 50,000 views on YouTube.  This drove traffic up to an average of 3,000 visitors per month.

Is a sophicated website worth the price for small businesses?

People are often under the impression that the latest technologies, programming languages and flash designs will ensure success for their website.  This is simply not true.  Too often, small businesses, who do not have a large budget to devote to their website/internet strategies, will hire designers to build the latest and greatest website.  Often these website are designed in PHP or ASP, they have Flash, and other website-enhancing features.  But is that necessary for your website?  Incorporating these items into your website usually costs you substantially more than utilizing images, java scripts and HTML. 

By choosing the sophisticated designs, you will be charged substantially higher rates for the creation and future maintanence of the website.  It will also challenge you to find better or a more affordable designers, should you become unsatisfied with the service of the current designers, because only a handful of people can understand and work with complicated website codes and technologies.

When considering a new website or a website redesign, ask yourself if it is necessary to have all of the latest technologies.  Often times, an effective website can be designed with images, javascripts and HTML coding.  This will likely cost you less to design, cost less to maintain and add features in the future.  It will also be easier to choose from designers who can easily take over the website should you become dissatisfied with your current designers.

Are you thinking of buying a template website, or content management system?

Many non-profit and businesses are beginning to utilize CMS (content management systems) for their ease-of-use and affordable pricing. This is a good alternative for those organization on a very tight budget, but “you get what you pay for”. CMS is essentially buying a template website that you can add content and some images, perhaps a few other items. However, by utilizing CMS, you often times forfiet original designs, search engine optimization, lack of a professional appearance, overloaded content and features (particularly on the homepage) that distract and perhaps turn away potential viewers, and should anything go wrong, you may be without support to remedy the problem.  These are some of the issues we have come across as organizations with CMS come to us to look for answers and directions, most notably, non-profit organizations!

I recently came across a potential client who implemented a CMS design but was not ranking on search engines.  We were able to optimize the website for search engines by importing the design and making the necessary modifications.  We reviewed another potential client who utilized CMS for their business, and it confirmed to us the importance of having a professional provide layout, strategies and optimization to best represent your business or organization.  In fact, this blog is a CMS, which we decided to utilize for experiment’s sake, and to maintain an understanding of the functionality and advancement of CMS.  But, this blog also has significant limitations that a website designed from “scratch” cannot replicate.

Rodli Web Strategies will be assisting it’s client Grant Hartford Corp. (www.granthartford.com) with its annual Shareholder meeting June 25.  In preparation for the meeting, we have redesigned their website and we will be assisting Grant Hartford with a live, streaming video event.  The video will begin at 1:30pm MST and will present the Garnet Gold Project.

Grant Hartford has recently filed it’s S-1 with the SEC.  The company is in the process of becoming a public company via an IPO.  We have assisted numerous private companies with their website/internet strategies as they became publicly-listed companies.
